about

BCE #1000

credits

released November 2, 2023

Did I think I'd make it to 1000? Maybe. But certainly not this fast. It is not merely a tribute to the label, and certainly not myself (unemployment helped in that regard), but even with the risk of being soppy it is a tribute to all the people who were kind and considerate enough to submit and contribute, and indeed were really fucking talented to boot. That is the reason Basement Corner Emissions is where it is today. When I received sole control of the old kv&gr/recs label I wanted to try something new. The label was pretty good, but it had become rather static and stagnant, and over-reliant on the same acts over and over. I had two choices: follow the tempting road of gathering in the big names and becoming a hipster boutique more intent on selling image and t-shirts, or do what I did, which was to make it a label for new and upcoming projects to get a start, and for established but under-known ones to find a home of sorts. I do think that was achieved. In the meantime BCE spread out to embrace more genres beyond harsh noise, to ambient, drone, and just about anything that can be considered 'experimental'. And more than anything else what made me proud was the number of people who told me they loved the output and that when they came on it helped their fledgling careers. And even better those who said it inspired them to start their own labels and to push things beyond the prevailing orthodoxy. BCE primarily exists to give talented but unheard (or underheard) experimental projects a boost and to fight against the elitism that holds down good sounds and unique creativity in the name of exclusion. Thanks to all who contributed here, and over the past four years to the label, and thanks to everyone who helped instead of hindered me; this is one for you to enjoy...

And naturally this also goes out to anyone who has streamed, downloaded, or even ordered a CD here or there from BCE; you are the ones that make it worthwhile above all...
